Prince William has a case of pre-wedding jitters.

The second in line for the British throne said his knees were knocking during a recent rehearsal for his upcoming wedding to Kate Middleton.

"I did the rehearsal the other day, and my knees started tapping quite nervously," Prince William told reporters Friday. "It's quite a daunting prospect but very exciting."

William will tie the knot with his long-term girlfriend in London's Westminster Abbey on April 29, in an hour-long ceremony attended by up to 2,200 invited guests and watched by billions worldwide.

It will be the biggest royal wedding since Prince William's parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, wed in 1981.

When quizzed what part of the wedding was most intimidating to the 28-year-old royal, he replied, "The whole thing."

"I'm thoroughly looking forward to it, but there's still a lot of planning to be done in the last four weeks," he added after a training exercise at his Royal Air Force base, where he works as a search and rescue helicopter pilot.

A LOOK BACK AT ROYAL WEDDINGS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited their grandson at RAF Valley in Wales Friday for their first up-close look at his working life.

"I was worried your hat would blow off," William told his grandmother after a strong gust of wind almost swept away the monarch's claret-colored hat.

The prince will return to his job as a pilot when he and Kate become husband and wife, and the couple will live near the base.

He has taken part in 12 search and rescue missions since joining the squadron in September, including rescuing someone who fell off a cliff and a heart attack victim.

"It's rewarding because every day you come into work, you don't quite know what's going to happen. It's quite exciting in that sense, it's unpredictable," he said.

"I'm very proud to be amongst the search and rescue guys and very privileged to be flying with some of the best pilots I think in the world."

But jokingly added that the job could get "hairy" at times - "especially with me at the controls."
