Prince William and Kate Middleton's plans for their American tour in July are being finalised and the pair are reported to have put in a chilling request to stay in a 'haunted' hotel.

The couple are hoping to spend a night at The Ahwahnee Hotel - an 84-year-old sprawling building in California's Yosemite National Park that was the inspiration behind supernatural scary movie The Shining.

In the 1980 film, a possessed Jack Nicholson - as Jack Torrance - terrorises his family during their stay at The Overlook Hotel, the interior of which is heavily modelled on The Ahwahnee.

'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have provisionally reserved the presidential suite,' a source tells the Daily Mirror.'

Wills, 28, and Kate, 29, leave for Canada at the end of June, and will then embark on a whirlwind 3-day trip to California.�

'Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit eight cities during their tour of Canada, from June 30 to July 8, 2011,' Clarence House confirm on the official Royal Wedding site.

'This will be the third time His Royal Highness has visited Canada. His previous visits were in 1991 and 1998. This will be the first visit to Canada for Her Royal Highness.'�
