Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell became close friends during their time on The UK X Factor
Cheryl ?Cole and Simon Cowell's relationship is said to be at an all time low.
The Girls Aloud star returned to London from LA for a Prince's Trust bash on Wednesday, with still no confirmation that she has any role at all with Simon on The US X Factor.
'Cheryl called him when she arrived back in the UK earlier this week and they had quite a heated conversation,' claims a source.
'She said she couldn't seem to understand why he was being so distant and strange over the past few weeks.'
Simon, 51, has confirmed the first judge to join him on The US X Factor panel will be music executive Antonio LA Reid.
American TV bosses are concerned that Cheryl, 27, isn't well known enough across the pond to be a success on the show.
'Although Cheryl has been told she is still in with a slim chance, she has resigned herself to not getting the job,' the source tells the Daily Star.
'To make matters worse, Cheryl's feeling extremely lonely and isolated at the moment.
'As soon as she got back, Kimberley [Walsh] and Nicola [Roberts] went to see her. Cheryl confessed how miserable she'd been feeling.
'She knows [Simon) has stuck his neck out for her but she can't help but feel their relationship has become a bit awkward.'
