The day after Pia Toscano was eliminated from American Idol, we started to hear rumors that she had already scored a recording contract with Interscope Records. Well it turns out, Interscope is very interested in Pia. But it sounds like her contract with American Idol could be holding her back.

When you compete on American Idol, you sign a contract with 19 Entertainment. And that contract prevents you from doing a whole lot without American Idol until long after the season is done. According to a former Idol contestant to PopEater.com, "When you compete on Idol, you must sign one of the strictest contracts in the business... Not only does Idol own you for the entire show and live tour that follows, it also controls everything you can do professionally for a long period after that."
And considering the current season of American Idol is still in full swing, Pia Toscano could be stuck sitting around and waiting, instead of making an album with Interscope Records. It's being said�that Interscope Records is "calling every top songwriter and producer to get an album together and rush-release it before the end of the season..."
But no matter what, Idol won't let Pia release any of her music. Why not? An insider claims, "The first hit song has always been from the winner and this year will be no different."

I get both sides of the argument and understand why American Idol needs to protect itself at least until the summer tour is over. But still, it stinks that Pia can't really launch her career for a little while. Of course, Pia wouldn't even be in this position if it weren't for American Idol!
